Screen Overload Part 3 Outdoor, Screen-Free things to do




Here are just a few ideas for Outdoor things to do. Again, we have all ages over here & the asterisk is next to things they have to ask to do. :)

Outdoor Ideas:

Free things to do At Home: These are free assuming that you already own the materials. :)
*roller blade/roller skate
*skate board/scooters
Play Ball:
Volleyball
Softball
Baseball
Soccer
whiffle balls
play Frisbee
* Basketball: Our kids have to ask to shoot baskets because the hoop is in the front yard. :)
Playground balls: Teach a little one how to roll, or kick a ball back & forth
Explore the yard: We have TONS of frogs & some snakes. The girls like to look for them. :)
sand and water activities...Be sure to supervise
bring music outside and dance
Set up a small tent & play camp
*Make a hopscotch out of stepping stones. You can paint them & put the kids' footprints on them, or just let them decorate them.

*Make mud pies: They DEFINITELY have to ask first to do this. :)

Set up an obstacle course
*paint: Kids can try to paint what they see outside, or you can set up a table and let them finger paint. :)
scavenger hunt
*Create a treasure hunt for them (leaving clues around the house or yard)
*Take pictures of things in nature to learn about and start a nature journal
*ride bikes
*water balloon fight
play board games on a blanket in the grass
*plant flowers in pots, or in ground

These would be cute to make for Mother's Day. :)
Make Homemade Popsicles: We have to do this because we have a child that is allergic to food dyes. They are much better and
you can make so many different kinds of combinations. :) You can use all natural fruit juices, or even use yogurts that don't
contain unhealthy ingredients. :) . Cascade Fresh brand Yogurt has a Dreamsicle yogurt that is SO GOOD. We have put that
into the forms and made Dreamsicles. :) They were REALLY GOOD!!! :) We have purchased a lot of different Popsicle forms
from Amazon.com. They have a great selection & aren't too pricey. :)

*bring out chairs and blankets and make a fort outside. :)
*wash the car together
*garden
pull weeds: I know I'm pushing it, but some kids actually like doing this. Sadly, none of mine do. :)
bring pillows and blankets and lay in the grass at night, looking at the stars and talk/tell stories
Make a pinata: This can take several days to make, but is a lot of fun. :) You can fill it with special treats, or even messages. :)

Take them to a playground and pack a picnic
Go on a nature walk and take a camera
Bird watching. :) We live near an Audubon society where you can visit and picnic and just enjoy viewing birds. :)
Go to the Library. They usually have activities planned. Look online to see what is planned into their monthly schedule.

Have cost involved:
You can buy the kids a disposable camera and let them take some photos on a nature walk. ;)

Go out for ice cream. Get it to go and eat it in the park
camping
